Missing Iqaluit man may need his medication, police say

Published 11:44 am Tuesday, August 18, 2026 By William Koblensky Varela Local Journalism Initiative Northern News Service Iqaluit RCMP are asking the public for help in locating Ootookjuk Kabvitok, 32, who has been missing since Aug. 13. Kabvitok was last seen at 11:30 p.m. that day near the library. He has a medical condition that requires medication. “Police and family are concerned for Ootookjuk’s well being. Investigators are reaching out to the public for assistance in locating Ootookjuk Kabvitok,” said Ashley Daley, the Nunavut RCMP’s media relations officer. Kabvitok is described as an Inuk man, 5’11”, 170 lbs, often wears glasses, has bleached blonde hair, a lion and a scorpion tattooed on either side of his neck, and tattoos on the back of his hands and inner forearm. He was wearing black-and-gold Nike Air Jordan sneakers, a grey-and-black Nike track suit, and a hat with ‘baby lou’ written on the side of it. Iqaluit RCMP can be contacted at 867-979-1111.
