Published 8:30 pm Monday, August 10, 2026 By Colleen Flanagan/Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News A Maple Ridge man has been charged following a sexual assault on July 30 in North Bay, Ontario. Nazif Kamenjas, 58, is accused of restraining and sexually assaulting a woman after encouraging her to consume an alcoholic beverage during a brief encounter on the street and following her home. Police said the woman was later able to seek help, and was transported to hospital for treatment. She reported the incident to police on July 31. Later that same day, Kamenjas was located and arrested without incident. “Sexual violence has no place in our community. We recognize the courage it takes for survivors to come forward,” said Assistant Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. “We want everyone to know that we are committed to thoroughly investigating these crimes, holding offenders accountable, and ensuring survivors have access to support resources,” Warner added. Kathleen Jodouin, executive director of victim services of Nipissing District, said survivors deserve safety, support, and to be believed. “Victim Services of Nipissing District is here to listen without judgment, connect you to confidential resources and provide you with information. You are not alone, and you do not have to go through this by yourself.” Kamenjas was arrested, released on bail with a future court date of August 25, 2026. Kamenjas was arrested, released on bail with a future court date of August 25, 2026. Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court. None of the charges have been tested in court, and a person charged is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.
