Delta police say 3rd person from Tsawwassen crash has died

The Delta police say a third person has died as a result of a truck crashing into people on a walk organized by Tsawwassen First Nation to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. According to police, Gwenyth Brigit Dwyn, 64, of South Delta died in hospital. Another person who was taken to hospital after the Sept. 30 incident has been released. Tsawwassen First Nation Elders Virginia Splockton and wilapiya (Barb Joe), were pronounced dead at the scene. In the aftermath of the crash, people across the country speculated about whether the crash was intentional. Police said the investigation continues. “The possibility that the driver experienced a medical event prior to the collisions remains under investigation,” a statement from police said. “Based on the evidence reviewed to date, investigators have not identified evidence indicating that the collision was targeted or ideologically motivated. Police said investigators remain in contact with the victim’s families and Tsawwassen First Nation. Investigators continue to gather and assess evidence to determine the full circumstances of this collision. If the evidence establishes criminality, any potential charges will be forwarded to Crown Counsel for assessment, according to the Delta Police Department. “We understand that the community has questions and wants answers about what occurred,” says Staff Sergeant Mike Whiteley, Media Relations Officer. “Our responsibility is to ensure those answers are based on a complete and objective examination of the evidence. Investigators are working through a significant amount of information, and it is important that we not reach conclusions before that work is complete.” Continue Reading
