Published 3:27 pm Monday, July 27, 2026 A 39-year-old man was stabbed in Iqaluit on July 23, causing life-threatening injuries. He was sent to Qikiqtani General Hospital where he was stabilized, according to a police new release, issued on July 27. The incident occurred at a residence on Joamie Court. Hay River Hub The victim was transported to Ottawa via medevac for further treatment. RCMP have charged Kevin Mathewsie, 28, with attempted murder, aggravated assault and two counts of breach of probation. Mathewsie remains under arrest and his next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 11.
