William Kolola, 30, has been charged with three counts of break and enter and committing an indictable offence, possession of break and enter instruments, and theft under $5,000. He also faces a charge of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Kolola remains under arrest after appearing in court. RCMP say the public was instrumental in identifying the accused. “Public cooperation continues to play an important role in helping police identify suspects, gather information and hold offenders accountable,” said Ashley Daley, Nunavut RCMP’s media relations officer. Break and enters to retail businesses and offices increased significantly in Iqaluit starting in December 2025 and tapering off by April. From Dec. 1, 2025 to Jan. 23, 2026, there were 36 break and enters, compared with just 17 during the same time period the previous year. Nunavut RCMP Chief Supt. Kent Pike said he believed the break and enters were being committed by two to three people in February. Kolola is at least the fourth person charged in the spate of break-ins, not counting an 18-year-old and three youths who were given formal warnings in April.
