It’s Christmas in September in Cambridge Bay. The supply barges have been busy unloading all the goodies for our growing community of Iqaluktuutiak Kiilinikmiutat Innuinait. Agjaraakpaktut umiaqjuamit Iqaluktuutiamut. The community retail outlets, such as Kalgen’s Convenience Store, the Northern and Ikaluktutiak Co-operative, have been very busy stocking up with the year’s supply of goods. Seen a few new vehicles, but most exciting are the new public housing units that have arrived for Cambridge Bay. Stuart Rostant and crew are very busy moving the pods from the shore to the foundations, where the houses will be set up. Yes, it will be like Christmas with all the excitement in our community. We are grateful. It puts smiles on faces and happiness in hearts for those given housing after being on the wait-list for some time. The Cambridge Bay Housing Association (CBHA) held its annual general meeting recently and approximately 150 residents attended with a full agenda, presentations, reports and many door prizes of furniture and gift cards. Guests attended from the Nunavut Housing Corporation. The CBHA board members were on hand to conduct a good meeting with staff also in attendance. Some of the issues raised included illegal activities, maintenance guidelines and policies, staff and board introductions, financial reporting and other issues that tenants wanted addressed. Most questions were answered by CBHA manager Vicki Aitaok. The Cambridge Bay Housing Association is one of Nunavut’s busiest, being one of the hubs where population growth is so fast, especially with a high population of young adults and growing families. We are so thankful and happy when residents are given a public housing unit to be their new homes. Quana to the hard working staff at the Cambridge Bay Housing Association. It has been a very busy time of year for everyone in our community. As summer is over and fall time has reached us, many local sports and activities have started up, along with bingos, cadets, meetings, etc. Quana to all the volunteers and leaders who make the community a good place to call home and keep our youth busy with positive activities for the next year. I wish you all a great year and stay well. Help each other in your communities. God Be With You Son. You have beautiful grandchildren.
