Three Indigenous men on foraging trip missing in northern Saskatchewan: RCMP

RCMP in northern Saskatchewan are looking for a trio of foragers missing near Jayjay Lake. La Ronge RCMP said in a news release it received a report of three missing men, Roderick Bird, 49, Emil Ratt, 67, and Ricky McKenzie, 48, on Wednesday night. The three men are on a planned foraging trip, traveling on foot, according to the mounties. They were last reported to be on Highway 165, approximately 10 kilometers north of Highway 106 near Jayjay Lake at approximately 6:45 p.m. The area is about 96 km southeast of La Ronge and 172 km north-northeast of Prince Albert. Since they were reported missing, La Ronge RCMP have engaged Saskatchewan RCMP’s Search and Rescue (SAR), Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services (PDS), RCMP Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), and Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency to assist in the search. All three men were wearing orange vests and sweatpants. RCMP do not yet have photos of the men available. RCMP are also asking anyone who lives in the Jayjay Lake area to check their home security cameras, doorbell cameras, and dashcams on the evening of July 22 or any time today. Continue Reading
