I didn’t go out right away because the way I feel is I don’t want the next bullet,” McKay told The Chronicle Herald. Article contentPolice said they arrived to find a 33-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound; he was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Article contentMarla MacInnis, manager of public relations and communications for Halifax Regional Police, said there’s no update on the man’s condition. Article content“There have been no arrests at this stage,” she said in an email. Article content“Investigators have been speaking to witnesses, reviewing video from the area and collecting evidence. Article content“It’s getting more serious because now there’s guns,” she said. “It’s a little nerve-racking. It’s made it hard for a lot of people. How do you speak up if there’s the fear that someone is going to shoot you?” Article contentArticle contentThe mood was decidedly low Thursday as most of the encampment’s residents kept to their tents, which are scattered throughout the park. A spokesperson for the Halifax Regional Municipality confirmed there are 19 tents and three trailers at Green Road Park.Article content“I’m just glad it’s not me. That’s why I try to stay out of things as much as possible because I know that kind of thing can happen here. Some people never learn, I guess, and get tangled up with the wrong people,” said McKay. Article contentPolice confirmed they’ve not yet recovered the gun used in the most recent shooting. Once they do, they’ll have a better chance of understanding where it came from. Article content“When we recover or seize a firearm, it undergoes a forensic examination and tracing process,” said MacInnis. Article content“We look at whether it has been used in other crimes and work to understand where the firearm came from and how it came into the possession of the person who had it.” Article contentIt’s not the first time gun violence has come to the encampment, with police responding to a call in February that saw a 21-year-old man suffer life-threatening injuries.
