Stewart first became mayor in 1985 and held the seat until being defeated by Bill Martin in the 2014 election, and then again from 2018 to 2022 with Kutcher’s election.Article contentArticle content“It’s a big decision, but I do believe I have the experience, time and energy to do the job,” Stewart wrote. “As mentioned, there is no expiry date on experience. I am not a one issue candidate. I like to drive the car looking through the windshield, not the rear view mirror.”Article contentStewart’s announcement mentioned that he values working with all levels of government to get things done.Article content“I think our ‘team’ got all of the things / projects that are in place and benefited Summerside greatly,” he wrote. “Most of our infrastructure projects are in place as a result of the above mentioned efforts.Article contentHe added that he will share his ideas for the city and what he would like to work with council on, at some point in the near future.Article content“I will state clearly now that I will make only one promise and that is to work hard for all citizens, and I know I can keep that promise,” he wrote.Article contentAttempts to reach Stewart for an interview were not successful.Article contentThe municipal election will take place Nov. 2.Article content
