Arctic Bay Hunters and Trappers Association victim of $230,000 in fraud: RCMP

Published 11:52 am Friday, August 21, 2026 By William Koblensky Varela Local Journalism Initiative Northern News Service A former employee has been accused of defrauding the Ikajutit Hunters and Trappers Association (HTA) in Arctic Bay of more than $230,000. The organization first reported unauthorized financial transactions to the police in November 2024. An RCMP investigation allegedly found in excess of $230,000 in unapproved transfers of money between 2022 and 2024. The police arrested and charged the former manager off the Ikajutit HTA, the Mounties stated on Aug. 21. Amy Barnabas, 39, faces one charge of fraud over $5,000, once count of bookkeeping fraud and one count of criminal breach of trust. Barnabas is scheduled to appear in court in Arctic Bay on Oct. 5.
