Truro defeated the East Hants Penguins 3-1 in Game 7 of their playoff series after finishing the regular season with a 15-5 record.Article content“It’s nice just to have the group back together,” Campbell said, “and (we’re) having a lot of fun here, and looking forward to another season.”Article contentRichard MacKenzie has joined the squad as its head coach for the 2026-27 season.Article content“They won last year, they enjoyed that feeling, and they want to duplicate it,” he said.Article content“So, big expectations, but I think we have the core group of guys back and they can fulfill those. So are forwards Denver Lynds and G Blackmore, as well as defencemen Alex Anthony, Jacob Christie, and Erik Campbell.Article contentMatt Welsh, who was named top goaltender and playoff MVP last season, will also be back in the Bearcats’ crease.Article contentArticle contentThe team announced five new additions to its roster for the 2026-27 season.Article contentOne is goaltender Jesse Cox, a Truro native who most recently played with the Amherst Ducks in the Beauséjour Senior Hockey League (BSHL).Article contentForwards Brandon Verge and Tyler Brown are also playing for the Bearcats this year. Verge skated for the Pictou County Pipers last season. Brown, who hails from Wilmot, Annapolis County, has experience at the junior, university, and senior levels; most recently with the Elsipogtog Hawks in the BSHL.Article contentDefencemen Chase Carter and Matt Donnelly are also joining Truro.Article contentCarter, who is from Camden, spent his junior career with the Yarmouth Mariners and Edmunston Blizzard in the Maritime Junior Hockey League. He has since played with professional hockey teams across North America.Article contentDonnelly, from Barrie, Ont., played for the junior A Bearcats before advancing to the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League where he spent time with the Cape Breton Eagles and Drummondville Voltigeurs. He also played at the university level.
