At least 30 participants played games, including an inuksuk building contest, soccer ball keep ups, bocce ball, bow and arrow shooting and an uphill race. Burgers, chicken and macaroni salad were served to more than 60 people who lined up at the park’s pavilion. One attendee was a Carrefour Nunavut employee. Jacob Ittshot, originally from Iqaluit, is a 16-year-old camp counsellor for the French-language business and community organization. He’s never taken care of children before, but since June 20 he’s been helping manage 20 to 30 kids at a time. Ittshot currently lives in Chateauguay, Que. He hadn’t been back to Iqaluit since 2018. Carrefour Nunavut’s food walk was guided by Benoit Havard, the organization’s president. The event brought out people of all ages and backgrounds. The occasion is a highlight of the year for the organization, according to Francis Essebou, Carrefour Nunavut’s executive director.
