She said that Charlottetown police’s street-crime unit received information that Lannigan and Ashford were selling crystal methamphetamine and hydromorphone (Dilaudid) and were receiving the drugs in the mail. The drugs were addressed to a fake name and sent to their Water Street apartment.Article contentFeb. 10Article contentOn Feb. 10, a police officer contacted Canada Post and spoke to an employee about packages containing drugs being sent to the Charlottetown apartment. On March 10, police spoke to the employee again about two packages destined for the Water Street apartment and addressed to the fake name. The packages were inspected and believed to contain large amounts of crystal methamphetamine and hydromorphone.Article contentArticle contentTwo police officers then drove to a Canada Post facility in Dieppe, N.B., met with the employee and picked up the packages. Police obtained a search warrant and in one package located 102 hydromorphone pills. The second package contained half of a kilogram (502 grams) of crystal methamphetamine.Article contentPolice prepared the packages to be delivered by an undercover officer to the Water Street apartment. This time, the first package contained three hydromorphone pills from the original package and 100 over-the-counter Vitamin D3 pills.Article contentThe second package contained 5.85 grams of crystal methamphetamine from the original package and 454 grams of magnesium flakes. The drugs and other substances were placed in vacuum sealed bags along with fluorescent detection spray before being placed in Canada Post packaging.Article contentMarch 12Article contentOn the morning of March 12, an undercover police officer dressed in a Canada Post uniform entered the Water Street building twice and knocked on the apartment unit’s door to deliver the packages but no one was home. The officer left a delivery notice slip on the door with instructions to pick up the packages at the Shoppers Drug Mart postal outlet on Queen Street.
