Mother still searching for answers one year after son Fox Elrics disappearance

The mother of a First Nations man who was reported missing one year ago is continuing to plead for anyone with information about her son’s disappearance to come forward. Fox Elric, now 31, was last seen on July 18, 2025, in Whitehorse’s Riverdale subdivision. He was reported missing three days later on July 21 and has not been seen since. Elric’s mother, Eileen Atlin, said his disappearance has been excruciating for his family who are desperate to bring him home. “It’s tearing me up inside, and it hurts so much every day,” she told APTN News. “I feel so lost without my son.” Fox Elric with his mother Eileen Atlin. He’s described as having a shaved head and a black moustache and beard. He is five-feet-10-inches tall and weighs 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and hat, as well as black headphones and prescription glasses. Atlin said at the time of his disappearance he was believed to be carrying a black Nike backpack and a faded blue-and-white tin of Players tobacco. Fox Elric with a shaved head. Photo: Yukon RCMP Atlin fears he may have fallen victim to foul play and said the uncertainty has taken an enormous toll on her mental and physical health. She said she asked her son to move back in with her before he went missing so she could spend more time with him, but he declined. She said it’s something she thinks about often. “I couldn’t protect my son, and it’s tearing me up inside,” she said. “It hurts so much every day.” Atlin said Elric enjoys going on long walks, and it’s possible he may have walked to Chadburn Lake or Grey Mountain. In an effort to find him, Eileen learned to kayak from her younger son so they could search Chadburn lake. She said her younger son has carried out other searches of his own on Grey Mountain. She said during a search of Grey Mountain an RCMP member arrived with a half-charged drone resulting in a short search which made her feel they were unprepared. She also feels that canines were not deployed enough when Elric was initially was reported missing. A Yukon RCMP spokesperson said in a statement it was unable to comment on specific investigative steps or discussions with family at this time, but did note multiple searches have been conducted and that it’s continuing to follow up on relevant leads. They also said its Historical Case Unit (HCU), which is responsible for long-term missing person investigations, is now leading the investigation, which could include future searches. Police likewise renewed calls for information in a release Tuesday. “This is an ongoing investigation, and police continue to seek information from the public that could help determine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Elric’s disappearance and assist in locating him,” they said. Atlin said she’s trying to remain hopeful, but with few answers, it’s been difficult. “I’m losing it. I’m losing my hopefulness,” she said. Despite a year without answers, Atlin said she can’t rest until she knows what happened to her son. “Any information, whether it’s his remains or he comes back in person, please keep your eyes looking,” she said.
